Soccer: Can anyone ever “Bend it like Beckham”?
The first & only British player to be celebrated as a champion in four different countries, David Beckham, has today brought the curtain down on his glittering career by announcing his retirement from football.
6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 1 Champions League, 1 La Liga title, 2 MLS Cups and one Ligue 1 crown tell their own story.
A footballer whose renowned ability to cross a ball, take a free kick and pass puts him up with the best. Beckham would be remembered for the way he helped take football to a whole new level.
The former England captain helped make football sexy, made football the new rock and roll and helped turn a whole new generation into football fans.
Films have made been made about him. Beckham has become an icon rather than a football star. And yet at the heart of everything is a truly gifted player with a wonderful charm and gift to ensure there is no-one else quite like him.
He is a mega star who has seen his career rise from realising his dream of playing for Manchester United to go on to win 115 caps for England.
Beckham has also played for the great clubs around the world like Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain and he even helped develop “soccer” in the US by joining LA Galaxy in the US.
Known for his philanthropy He endeavoured to give away his latest wage deal with PSG to charity as he is so wealthy that he is happy to give something back.
But behind all of the megastar, one thing is easy to overlook: his ability as a footballer. Let no-one tell you differently as all of the tributes come out in the next few days. Beckham is one of football’s greats.
His ability to cross a ball, take a free kick and pass puts him up with the best. Pele, Messi and Maradona are thought of as the greatest of all time. But they will all tell you that Beckham has special qualities as a footballer.
You couldn’t possibly reach this level without outstanding ability. He is also a leader on the pitch, an inspiration and a colossus.
No-one else might be able to Bend It Like Beckham. Well done, Golden Balls! Goodluck in your future Endeavours.

Soccer: The tale of a Fergie & 17 City managers
Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement on May 8, after guiding Manchester United to a 13th Premier League title.
But the Etihad hierarchy ensured the Scot would see off one final Manchester City boss on Monday, when Roberto Mancini was shown the door.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been the main man at Old Trafford since 1986 – and during that time Manchester City have seen 17 managers come and go.
Below is a list of managers that have been hired and given the boot during Fergie’s time at Old Trafford.
Jimmy Frizzell: Oct 1986 – May 1987. Took the helm at Manchester City less than two months prior to the arrival of Sir Alex Ferguson at rivals Manchester United in September 1986. Got City relegated. Lasted only eight months.
Mel Machin: May 1987 – Nov 1989. Got City promoted to Division One. In the first season in the top-flight, his team beat United by 5–1, in what Alex Ferguson described as the lowest point of his career.
Tony Book: caretaker manager, November 1989.
Howard Kendall: Dec 1989 – Nov 1990. Finished 14th in the old Division One with 48 points – the same number as rivals Manchester United. Left to join Everton.
Peter Reid: November 1990 – August 1993. Led City to successive fifth-placed finishes in 1991 and 1992. Dismissed early into the 1993-94 season.
Brian Horton: Aug 1993 – May 1995. Lost 5-0 to United in 1994. Horton was sacked shortly after the arrival of new chairman Francis Lee.
Alan Ball: Jul 1995 – Aug 1996. A terrible start to the 1995–96 season saw City endure eight defeats in 11 games, without a single win. City were relegated on goal difference after seven successive seasons of top flight football.
Asa Hartford: caretaker manager, August 1996 – October 1996.
Steve Coppell: Oct 1996 – Nov 1996. Quit after only six games and 33 days in charge. He cited the pressure of the job as his reason for leaving the club. His reign at the club is the shortest of any City manager to date.
Phil Neal: caretaker manager, Nov 1996 – Dec 1996. Oversaw 10 games as City boss but lost seven of them as City headed towards the bottom of Division One before Christmas.
Frank Clark: Dec 1996 – Feb 1998. Almost relegated to the third division. Felt his efforts had been undermined by internal politics at the club.
Joe Royle: Feb 1998 – May 2001. Arrived when the club was deep in the relegation zone and even though he could not save the club from relegation to Division Two, the next season they were promoted through the play-offs to Division One and a year later were promoted to the Premiership. City only spent one season back in the top division, leading to Royle being dismissed after relegation in May 2001.
Kevin Keegan: May 2001 – Mar 2005. In his first season, City were promoted as First Division champions after scoring 108 league goals. Finished 9th in the 2002 – 2003 Premier League, Took City to the Uefa Cup (albeit via the Fair Play league), and in 2003–04 finished 16th in the Premier League. Retired.
Stuart Pearce: Mar 2005 – May 2007. Earned the job after a promising spell in caretaker charge, finished 15th in the Premiership due to losing nine of the last 10 games. Eliminated from the League Cup by a League One team. The side also scored just 10 goals at home in the league, and none after New Years Day in 2007, a record low in top-flight English football.
Sven-Goran Eriksson: Jul 2007 – Jun 2008. Beat United to go top of the Premier League after three games without conceding a goal in August 2007. Became the first Manchester City manager since 1969–70 to win both league derby games against Manchester United and also achieved the club’s joint highest Premier League point total, 55.
Mark Hughes, Jun 2008 – Dec 2009. Broke the British transfer record by signing Robinho from Real Madrid for £32.5 million. Finished 10th in Hughes’ first season with the club, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup. Sacked after only two wins in 11 Premier League matches in the beginning of the 2009-2010 season.

Roberto Mancini: Dec 2009 – May 2013. Guided City to the FA Cup, their first trophy in a generation, after a semi-final victory over United. And 12 months later, in the most dramatic fashion possible, City were crowned champions of England. However, 2013 was a poor year as City lost the FA Cup final to Wigan and finished runners-up in the league to United.
